Rare Antique Victorian Adjustable Counterweighted Pull Down Wall Sconce Light

This gorgeous early 1900s wall sconce has an unusual counterweighted design that allows the socket to be raised and lowered. I think it would make a great reading light for a bed or chair, as it can be moved out of the way when not in use, then swiveled into position and lowered when needed. The counterweight is held in place by knotting the cord beneath it, so the total possible movement can be changed by moving the location of the knot. The counterweight cord system means that instead of being hardwired and mounted to an electrical box like most wall sconces, this fixture is attached to the wall with screws and then plugged into a standard wall outlet. With the socket fully retracted, the cord has a length of approximately 8 feet, although it could of course be extended.

This sconce was clearly a luxury item when it was made and is fairly large, with a backplate measuring 17.5" tall by 3.5" wide and an arm that projects 15 from the wall when installed. This fixture has been rewired and the counterweight has been replaced. It is in very good shape for its age, with some light overall surface wear. The glass shade has a few extremely shallow chips on the bottom surface of the lower edge (see photos). You can go to the following link for a short video that shows the swivel arm and pull down function of this fixture in operation. I consider the photos in my listings to be part of the description.
